Drum Profiles: Standard vs High Lift

Standard lift drums (such as APCO 400-8 or OMI 8-inch) are flat with spiral grooves, designed for doors that bend immediately into the horizontal tracks. High-lift drums feature a tapered section that transitions into a flat section, providing extra lifting force as the door raises vertically before curving back. Vertical-lift drums are fully tapered to manage the weight as the door lifts straight up. We select the correct drum profile for your system.

Shaft Keyways & Set-Screw Tension

Cable drums are secured to the shaft using square keys inserted into matching slots (keyways) and locked with set-screws. If the set-screws loosen, the drum can slide along the shaft, causing the cable to slip off the drum.
