Bottom seal (astragal)
The bottom seal slides into an aluminum or steel retainer bolted to the bottom panel. When the door closes, the rubber or vinyl bulb compresses against the garage floor or threshold. It blocks water, leaves, rodents, and the cold air that pours under a hard, cracked, or missing seal. Profiles vary — U-shape, bulb, T-style — and must match your retainer size.
- Visible when you look under the closed door from outside
- Takes the most abuse from ice, salt, and sun
- Often the first seal homeowners notice failing
- Wrong size leaves gaps or binds the door shut
